No, playing basketball doesn't make you taller, nor does any other sport (bench pressing can make you shorter, though)… It is true that tall people are often good basketball players, but playing basketball does not affect your growth. Height is determined by a mix of genetics and nutrition.

Science suggests that playing basketball can add inches to your height due to the anaerobic movements and jumping during a game of basketball. It allows the pituitary gland to release more growth hormones into the body causing it to grow.

The correlation of tall people playing basketball is not the same as playing basketball being the causation that results in them being tall. Being tall gives you an advantage in basketball so the professionals who play basketball (who are the best in the world at basketball) tend to be tall people.

In basketball according to Dr. Steven Halls, “Male basketball players tend to be 9 inches taller than the average male” this just shows how size in this sport really is a trend. There are many obvious reasons why being tall in a sport like basketball helps, for example the rim is set at 10 feet tall and the closer you are to it the easier it is to get the ball in the basket.

It is obvious taller people go into basketball, but I believe playing basketball will increase your height from whatever your genes has provided. If a father was 5’10”, the son is not going to be 7’0″, but by playing chances are the son can grow a couple more inches. Obviously nutrition plays an important role.

No, playing basketball will not make someone taller. Basketball can help you run faster and remain active.

Basketball players tend to be tall, thin athletes because their height helps them to reach toward the basketball goal and defend the ball against opponents. Male professional basketball players tend to be about 9 inches taller than the average American male, according to NBA.com and Dr. Steven Halls on Halls.MD.com.

Height obviously matters when it comes to playing basketball. Tall people are usually more efficient, they can reach the basket easily, allowing for more points per game, as well as rebounds and blocked shots. Scouts usually search for tall young talents that have potential to become great basketball players.

In theory, there is a strong relationship between body composition and positional roles in elite basketball. In the NBA, the center (C) players are the tallest on the team. This position has been traditionally considered one of most important.

The power forward does many of the things a center does, playing near the basket while rebounding and defending taller players. But power forwards also take longer shots than centers. Small Forward. The small forward plays against small and large players. They roam all over on the court. Small forwards can score from long shots and close ones.
