According to the NCAA, there is no set age limit for any athletes. However, Division I athletes are required to enroll in school one calendar year after high school graduation and then have just five years to complete a typical four-year degree.

Can you play professional basketball after being a d3 college player?
Taking these rules into consideration, we come to the conclusion that the only way one can go to college at the age of 25 and still have 4 seasons of eligibility is: If he/she hasn’t previously enrolled in any full-time collegiate institution; If he/she hasn’t participated in any organized competition after the end of the grace-period;

Am I too old to play college sports? There is an age limit for NCAA Division I and II sports. The NCAA allows a one year grace period after high school graduation for DI and II schools. One year after your high school class graduates is when your eligibility will start to be affected in all sports except for hockey, skiing and tennis.

939,836 – the number of high school basketball players across the United States this season. 94.2% of those athletes will not play basketball at the college level. These statistics, when I first heard them, terrified me. I grew up desperately wanting to play basketball at the highest level, but like many players, I didn’t know how to get there.

There are limits imposed on the time taken before progressing the ball past halfway (8 seconds in FIBA and the NBA; 10 seconds in NCAA and high school for both sexes), before attempting a shot (24 seconds in FIBA, the NBA, and U Sports (Canadian universities) play for both sexes, and 30 seconds in NCAA play for both sexes), holding the ball while closely guarded (5 seconds), and remaining in the restricted area known as the free-throw lane, (or the "key") (3 seconds).

The length of the shot clock can vary depending on the level of basketball and will usually be somewhere from 35 seconds to 24 seconds. If a shot is taken by the offensive team and the basketball hits the rim, the shot clock is reset to 0 no matter which team takes possession. This rule is used in all professional and college level basketball.

Even if you don’t play for one of the Big 5 conferences in college, you can still get good experience at a division 2 or 3 school. You’ll get the most exposure if you play for division 1 in the NCAA since they are normally the games shown on TV and from the most prominent schools.

Some of them can actually play, and some can’t — I have seen this with my own eyes. Some take the offers and some don’t. My point, however, is that a player with a ‘D3’ or ‘NAIA’ or whatever else there is out there on their resume will have to go and create their own opportunities to get a contract.
